This is a story of triumph, perseverance and refusal to take ‘no’ for an answer. David’s story begins in the back of a bobsled in 2002 and culminates with 3 historical Skeleton runs at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. David Greaves began his journey as a founding member of the Israeli Bobsled team in 2002 and in 2010 he began his tenure as volunteer President of the Israeli Olympic Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation. He has navigated the tricky waters of Israeli national sport, and international relations and realized his dream of taking a team to the Olympic games in 2018 and walking in the athletes’ parade as a member of the Israeli Olympic team.
David’s passion for Jewish community and for Israel led him to leave a successful hi-tech sales career in 2004 to become a Jewish Community professional in Winnipeg. After 6 rewarding years at the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg followed by 4 years at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba in 2014 David left to establish his philanthropy consulting practice, Protexia. In January 2020 David accepted the position as Executive Director of the Jewish National Fund of Canada, Manitoba and Saskatchewan region.
As a founding member of the Israeli Bobsled Team in 2002, David made Aliyah and competed internationally as a bobsledder and with his team in the world championships in 2004 and 2005.
David has always felt a deep sense of pride representing Israel and has said: “there isn’t a moment in any day that I don’t feel the flame of my Jewish heritage burning deep inside of me”.
David has two amazing kids, Nesya and Aaron, that has provided him the opportunity to enjoy life as a kid all over again, through their eyes.
